Mondays, April 24th - May 22nd
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
This course is specifically focused to offer you tools and techniques to have a successful musical theater audition. The process will offer you specific ideas to explore- making strong choices, standing out, interaction with the team, what to do/what not to do, handling nerves, the dreaded accompanist, and more!
Each week, students will have the opportunity to hold a mock audition for the room, as well as observe other auditions. You will learn as much from giving your audition as you will from seeing others. The five-week course will cover different genres of musical theater- Golden Age, Modern, Sondheim, and Pop.
The course instructor, Austin Cook, is no stranger to the audition room. Austin has seen thousands of auditions as both a music director and accompanist, as well as an actor giving the audition. Being in the audition room, Austin has a unique perspective into the minds of the casting director, director, producers, accompanist, reader and the musical director. Austin has served as an accompanist in the room to Broadway, Off-Broadway, Chicago’s Paramount, Marriott, Drury Lane, Writers, Court Theater, Goodman, Porchlight and many more. No one knows both the New York and Chicago musical theater scenes better.
By the end of this session, you will have 5 new songs for your audition book, coached and ready to go, and you will have the confidence and tools you need to have a successful audition!
Parking available on the street or in the adjacent lot. By Public Trans, #76 bus pulls up right in front!
