ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIPS

Porchlight Music Theatre offers internships in 4 different areas: Audience & EventsDevelopment & Fundraising, Marketing & Social Media and Arts Administration. While you may spend majority of your time supporting one department Porchlight encourages our interns to experience all aspects of running a non-profit arts organization. There will be projects that all interns will work on together.  Scheduling is usually 2-3 days a week.

INTERNSHIP DATES

  • Porchlight accepts applications on a rolling basis.
  • Fall Internships: Approximately September – December
  • Winter/Spring Internship: Approximately January – June (or a portion thereof)
  • Summer Internship: Approximately May – August

Audience & Events

Porchlight Music Theatre seeks motivated interns to join our dynamic growing team as the company moves to the Ruth Page Center for the Arts and will now manage its own box office. We are specifically looking for interns with interest in in the areas of audience services, events, and house/box office management. You will also gain some experience working in development as well. This position reports to the Audience & Events Director. While you may spend the majority of your time supporting one department Porchlight encourages our interns to experience all aspects of running a non-profit arts organization. General Management Responsibilities: 

General non-profit arts administration and customer service; answering phones, emails and door traffic
General office support: photocopying, filing and other basic office functions
Other duties as assigned

Audience Services Responsibilities: 

Assist with processing subscriptions and cultivating new subscribers
Assist with processing ticket orders by taking calls, processing cash and credit card transactions
Gain experience with carefully maintaining all customer records in PMT’s ticketing software, Patron Manager
Provide excellent customer service over the phone and in person

Development Responsibilities: 

Assist with gift processing and database maintenance.
Continually refine data quality, update patron records, and implement improved data structures
Assist in executing fundraising or special events (ICONS Gala, Chicago, Sings etc…)
Assist in developing databases of community groups
Conducting fundraising prospect research

Desired Skills and Experience

Experience in an office setting a plus, Interest in arts administration or music theatre preferred
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, especially in customer service
Positive outlook, friendly disposition
Experience in any donor databases is helpful
Experience and/or interest in Audience Services, Development, Events, and House/Box Office Management
Professional attitude
Eager to take the initiative on specific projects
Strong desire to learn
Strong attention to detail
High level of organization skills
Ability to multi-task, self-manage and prioritize
Comfortable working on a PC with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc)

Development & Fundraising

Responsibilities:

Assist with gift processing and database maintenance.
Receive donations, enter donation information into Total Info, and ensure accurate and timely acknowledgment
Continually refine data quality, update patron records, and implement improved data structures
Assist in executing fundraising or special events (ICONS Gala, Chicago, Sings etc…)
Provide courteous and prompt customer service to attendees leading up to and following cultivation events
Assist in developing databases of community groups
Conducting fundraising prospect research

Responsibilities:

Assist in planning and execution of social media, digital marketing, direct mail and other campaigns
Assist in the execution of promotional videos
Assist with data management and analysis
Maintain press and photo archives
Manage distribution of promotional materials
Conduct research for special projects
Other duties as assigned

Experience with social media marketing, graphic design or video production a plus.
Interest in arts administration, marketing, or music theatre preferred.

Production Internship Opportunities

These internship positions are available on a per-production basis only. Scheduling is flexible, though production internships have specific times and are 2-3 months in duration. Please keep in mind that our season begins September and ends in May.

There are no production internships from June-early August.
