Internships available for Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms
WHY INTERN AT PORCHLIGHT MUSIC THEATRE?
While interning at the PMT you will enjoy:
- A deeper understanding of your academic study through real world experience. Network with other interns and work with experienced professionals in your intended industry.
- Intern events with staff, guest artists and other members of the community to broaden your knowledge base and expand your understanding of professional theater in Chicago.
- Complimentary tickets to Porchlight Music Theatre productions and special events.
- A small travel stipend.
- College credit, as arranged with your individual college or university.
Maximum of 30 hours/week; The specific days/hours will be discussed and determined by each department during the interview process to serve the needs of the specific department.

Activities: Become a real part of the Education Team and support the growth of our programming to serve all of Chicago’s children. Focusing on both administrative tasks (parent communication, material preparation, Teaching Artist support) as well as hands on classroom experience, our Education and Outreach Intern will have the opportunity to focus on their individual goals while learning how a non-profit education department runs day to day.
Qualifications: Strong communication skills, both written and in person, ability to think on your feet and problem solve, experience working with students aged 7-17 years a plus.
Mentor: Education Director
Activities: Work with the development team to plan our major gala (the ICONS gala) and support our daily our ongoing community and patron partnerships. Opportunities include, but are not limited too, designing and compiling donor reach outs, attending donor events, delivering print materials, and working to expand Porchlight’s reach in the community.
Qualifications: Attention to detail, desire to make meaningful connections with patrons, ability to learn Patron Manager database.
Mentor: Development Manager
Activities: Work with the marketing team to promote all of Porchlight’s initiatives including MainStage, Porchlight Revisits, New Faces Sing Broadway, the ICONS gala, Chicago Sings, as well as development and educational initiatives. Opportunities include, but are not limited too, creating third party partnerships with theatre companies, organizations, condo association and others; creating social media campaigns, distribution of materials throughout Chicagoland. researching productions for Chicago connections, promoting events through social media, attending events and much more!
Qualifications: Design/video skills are not necessary but are useful to this position.
Mentor: Marketing Manager
Activities: Seeking individuals with strong interpersonal and organizational skills; knowledge of musical theatre canon and local performers a plus. Duties include keeping headshots on file updated and accurate; organizing, staffing and monitoring audition calls; preparing sheet music and script pages for audition sides; assisting on-site with special events and general office duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Flexible schedule required.
Mentor: Casting and Company Manager
Activities: Experience the inner workings of a mid-size nonprofit theater that specializes in producing musical theater. You will be a vital part of our day to day operations, entrusted with tasks that keep the company going. Tasks range from assisting with outside rentals and maintaining our facilities to tracking budgets and preparing for events. This position is geared towards someone that is looking to expand their knowledge in the nuts and bolts of non profit theatre operations.
Qualifications: Strong organizational and problem solving skills, plus a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work independently on large projects.
